Decision and Risks

Q: How do I encourage my staff to make decisions?

A: Making decisions requires access to information, clear authority and a willingness to take risks. As a leader, what are you doing to create a culture that supports independent decisions? For instance, think about the last time someone went ahead and made a choice to act independently on a decision. What did you do when you found out about it? Were you supportive? If there was a mistake or a problem, how was it handled? Will people 'pay' for it? If you want people to be more independent in their decision making, pay attention to the efforts they make in that direction – this will give them the clear message that you do indeed encourage this action.

What you pay attention to is what you will see more of.
