Question: We’ve got some new people starting. How do we get them started on the right foot?
Answer: We are all different, so getting to know how the new folks learn best is a great way to understand which approaches to integrate into their training. The fact that you’re asking them about this tells them that you’re interested in them as individuals. So what should you ask them? Here’s a question we like to ask: Think of a time when you had to learn something new and it went really well. What made it work? Was it hands-on? Did you have a mentor? Were you left alone with technical data? Do you love the classroom? Remember, you hired them because you liked what they had to offer. You’ve made an investment in them. Spend a bit of time learning what will cause this investment to thrive. Don’t assume that you know.
